What to Expect at Your Liposuction Consultation in Jonesboro, AR
answered by Dr. Vaibhav Desai, MD, Jonesboro.

Nothing is decided at the consultation unless you want it to be. It is a conversation, not a commitment.

Most people who book a liposuction consultation have never had a cosmetic procedure. They have questions they feel silly asking, a number in their head they are afraid to say out loud, and a worry that someone is going to look them up and down. If that is you, this post is the walk-through. It covers what happens at a consultation at Lux Lipo in Jonesboro, what to bring, what you leave with, and the questions that are worth asking before you decide anything.

Here’s exactly what happens at a first visit — and you can come and see the place before you book anything.

Before

Before you come in

Booking takes a minute online through our scheduling page, or you can call (870) 230-0844. You can choose an in-person visit or a virtual consultation by video. We are at 3800B S Caraway Rd, Suite 8, in Jonesboro, with regular hours Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 10 AM to 6 PM. Other days are by appointment, which matters if you are driving in from Paragould, Blytheville, Batesville or across the line from Kennett or Sikeston. If the drive is the thing holding you back, start with a video call and come in once you have decided.

Bring three things. A list of every medication and supplement you take, including over-the-counter ones. A rough idea of what bothers you and what you would like to change, in your own words. And your questions, written down, because everyone forgets at least one once they are in the room.

If you are coming in, wear something easy to change out of. If the area you want to talk about is your stomach, flanks or thighs, we will need to look at it. That part is brief, and it is done with the door closed and only the people who need to be there. On a video consultation, the hands-on exam waits until you come in.

In the room

What happens in the room

The consultation is with one of our two physicians, Dr. Desai or Dr. Chug. Dr. Vaibhav Desai, MD, a physician member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery, does most of the liposuction; Dr. Chug does most of the fat-transfer work. Either way, the person you talk to is one of the people who would treat you, not a salesperson.

It runs in roughly this order.

You talk first. What you want to change, how long it has bothered you, what you have already tried. There is no wrong answer here. Most people are describing an area that has not moved with diet and exercise, and that is exactly what liposuction is for.

Then the exam. The doctor looks at the area, checks how your skin sits and moves, and feels where the fat is. On a video call this is a first look only; the hands-on part happens in person before anything is scheduled. This is where candidacy gets worked out. Awake liposuction works best on localized fat with reasonably good skin elasticity. It is a contouring procedure, not a weight-loss procedure, and the doctor will tell you plainly if what you are describing calls for something else.

Then the plan. Which areas, in what order, whether one session or two makes more sense, and whether anything pairs well with it. Loose skin after fat removal is the most common follow-on, which is why Morpheus8 or Renuvion sometimes come up. Adding volume somewhere else, like the breasts or hip dips, is a fat transfer conversation.

Then the honest part. What recovery is really like, what the risks are, and what a realistic result looks like for your body. Results vary from person to person, and anyone who promises you a specific outcome at a consultation is not being straight with you.

The procedure

How awake liposuction actually works

This is the part most people want explained in plain language, so here it is.

A diluted local anesthetic is injected into the area. It numbs the tissue and loosens the fat. A thin tube called a cannula goes in through incisions a few millimeters long, and the fat is suctioned out. You are awake the whole time. There is no general anesthesia, no breathing tube and no hospital. Most people describe the sensation as pressure and movement rather than pain.

You walk out the same day. You need someone to drive you home.

Recovery

What recovery looks like

Expect swelling, bruising, soreness and some numbness. All of that is normal. The incision sites drain fluid for the first day or two, which looks alarming and is not. You wear a compression garment for a period that your doctor sets for you, and you follow activity limits for a while.

Numbness is the thing people do not expect. It comes from minor irritation to small nerves, feeling usually starts coming back within a few weeks, and it keeps improving over months. Permanent numbness is very rare.

The shape you see at one week is not the final shape. Swelling takes time to settle, and results are judged over three to six months. If you want a second area done later, the usual advice is to wait three to six months so the first area has fully healed.

The removed fat cells do not come back. Keeping the result depends on keeping your weight steady.

Cost

What it costs, and how you find out

We do not publish prices, and we will not quote one over the phone, because the number depends on how many areas, how much fat, and what else is in the plan. What we do is quote it in writing after your consultation: the quote is emailed to you with a link to check your financing eligibility, so you have an actual figure for your actual plan and not a range off a website.

There are three ways to pay: an in-house payment plan that is settled before your procedure date, Cherry, and PatientFi. Our Cost & Financing page explains what moves the price up or down.

Questions to ask

Questions worth asking

Bring these, or any of them.

How many of these do you do in a typical month? Can I see before-and-after photos of someone with a similar starting point? Who do I call at 9 PM on the night of my procedure if I am worried? What would make me a poor candidate? What happens to my skin after the fat is gone? If I do nothing, what changes?

The questions that tell you the most are about the work itself: who performs the procedure, how often they do it, and who handles your follow-up.

After the visit

What you leave with

A written plan, with the written quote emailed after your visit along with a financing link. A clear yes, no or not-yet on candidacy. Pre-procedure instructions if you decide to go ahead, including a medication review and garment sizing (done in person). And no pressure. Plenty of people go home, think it over for a month, and book then. That is a normal way to do this.

Next step

Ready when you are

Book a consultation online or call (870) 230-0844. We are at 3800B S Caraway Rd, Suite 8, Jonesboro, AR, and we see patients from across Northeast Arkansas and the Missouri Bootheel. Results vary from person to person; the consultation is where you find out what is realistic for you.

Questions

Asked at the desk, answered here.

Medically reviewed by Dr. Vaibhav Desai, MD. If yours is not here, call (870) 230-0844 and ask — nobody will try to book you for asking a question.

How long does a liposuction consultation take?

Plan on about an hour. The conversation and exam are most of it. If you have several areas in mind or want to talk about pairing lipo with skin tightening or fat transfer, it can run longer, and that is fine.

Can I do the consultation online instead of coming in?

Yes. Consultations are offered in person or by video, with Dr. Desai or Dr. Chug. A video consultation covers your goals, candidacy, the plan and the quote. The hands-on exam happens in person before anything is scheduled, and many out-of-town patients do the video call first and one visit after.

Do I have to undress at the consultation?

Only the area you want to discuss, and only briefly, so the doctor can check skin and fat distribution. It is done privately, and you are welcome to bring a partner, friend or family member into the room; a second set of ears helps with the recovery details and the quote.

Will I get a price at the consultation?

Yes, in writing, for your specific plan. It is emailed to you after the consultation, with a link to check your financing eligibility. We do not quote prices online or by phone because the cost depends on the areas and the plan. Financing through our in-house plan, Cherry or PatientFi is explained at the same visit.

Is awake liposuction safe if I have a medical condition or take medication?

That is exactly what the consultation is for. Bring your full medication and supplement list and tell the doctor about any condition, including anything that affects healing or bleeding. Do not stop or change any medication on your own before a consultation. If you have a specific question before you book, call the clinic at (870) 230-0844.

What if I am not a good candidate?

The doctor will tell you, and tell you why. Sometimes the answer is a different treatment, sometimes it is not yet, and sometimes it is that liposuction would not give you what you are looking for. A consultation that saves you from the wrong procedure is a good consultation.

Come in.
Or book ahead.

A consultation is a conversation, not a commitment. We'll tell you honestly what's realistic for you.
